Funding Opportunities for Native Hawaiian Cultural & Environmental Stewardship

Organizations dedicated to preserving Native Hawaiian culture and natural resources have several grant opportunities to support their initiatives. From stewardship training and cultural preservation to environmental conservation, these funding programs aim to uplift the Native Hawaiian community through hands-on projects and sustainable practices. Applications are now open for the following grants, each designed to empower organizations in their efforts to protect, enhance, and perpetuate Hawaiʻi’s rich cultural and environmental heritage.

Native Hawaiian Stewardship Training Program, Historic Hawaii Foundation

Deadline: Wednesday, March 19, 2025, by 11:59pm

The NHO Stewardship Training Request for Proposals (RFP) is an open call for eligible Native Hawaiian Organizations to propose a hands-on stewardship training project at a specific historic or cultural property in the Hawaiian Islands. Potential outcomes and benefits include identification, documentation, evaluation and preservation of historic and culturally-significant properties by means of training workshops, field schools, symposia or training sessions to address specific identified preservation needs. Kūkulu Ola Program, Hawaii Tourism Authority

Deadline:  Tuesday, April 1, 2025, by 4:30pm HST

Aims to ho'oulu (grow) the uniqueness and integrity of the Native Hawaiian culture and community through genuine experiences for both visitors and residents by focusing on supporting community initiatives that contribute to protecting and enhancing the Hawaiian culture within the tourism industry. Kahu ʻĀina Program, Hawaii Tourism Authority

Deadline:  Tuesday, April 1, 2025, by 4:30pm HST

Aims to improve and enhance the quality of life for Hawai‘i’s residents and the visitor experience by focusing on supporting community initiatives that contribute to the responsible management, improvement, and protection of Hawaiʻi's natural resources in areas frequented by residents and visitors.
